TSPLOST, Youth, and the Future
As a 17 year old, I unfortunately was not able to vote on Tuesday in the regional referendum for the transportation sales tax commonly referred to as TSPLOST. But even if I couldn’t make my voice heard at the ballot box, I would like to send a message to the majority of Atlantans who voted down the measure at the polls.
TSPLOST was about more than raising sales taxes by 1%, it was about more...

Excuse my political rant:
Recently, a lot of conservatives have been getting angry over a recent Obama speech.
If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you’ve got a business — you didn’t...

I need to teach classes about how to use Facebook.
I’m sorry, but I’d rather not hear about the “cunt-shattering orgasm” you just gave your girlfriend.
Or the details of your parent’s nasty divorce.
Or that you are watching some TV show that you feel the need to update us all on every five seconds.
Overall: Facebook is not anonymous people, think about what you’re posting before you put it on the internet...

My parents excitedly made me listen to some "new"...
it was Bruno Mars.
I think this proves that I’m the only person in this house that has contact with the outside world.

A Most Visually Appealing Poem
I just want to tell you something,
something of significance.
I just want you to know,
how I feel about it.
What can I say?
I don’t know,
I never will.
Shit.

So apparently my Facebook likes could lead someone to believe that I’m a lesbian living in Seattle. I got an ad on the side advertising “The most popular magazine exclusively by lesbians for lesbians in the Seattle metropolitan area”.
What?! Why?!

After at least 6 months of not going to mall, I went both yesterday and today.
Shopping is depressing you guys, seeing all of the beautiful models just makes me feel inadequate and ugly.
Also, according to society guys can’t have body image problems, so no one understands.
*Sigh…*

Girl: What do you guys think of tattoos?
Boy: I think they're ok, on the right people.
Me: I would never get one.
Boy: Well good, because if you did you'd look like white trash.
Me: That's nice to know, that you think I'm one tattoo away from being white trash...

My mom: So, Lucy (one of her vocal students) was telling me at her lesson about what a great time she had at the Mormon Prom last week.
Me out loud: That's nice. *straight face*
Me in my head: OH MY GOD THERE'S A MORMON PROM?!?!?! *vision of women in handmade fundamentalist dresses and men in Mormon missionary clothes not dancing/touching*

This eighth grader that I’m friends with on Facebook is uploading pictures from her eighth grade dance in an album called “Best Night of My Life: 8th Grade Dance: The Masquerade in Venice at Lovvingood Middle School”.
Firstly: Best Night of Your Life? Really? You’re in the fucking 8th grade. I went to a high school prom and that wasn’t even the best night of my...

Me: Guess what? I won a 10 day trip to France!
Dad: That's amazing, I'm so proud of you.
Mom: I saw that you got a 77 on your math final. This is unacceptable.

Today was a good day. I’m not sure why exactly (especially since I royally screwed myself on my AP Micro exam…) but it was just nice.

There Will Come Soft Rains
There will come soft rains and the smell of the ground, And swallows circling with their shimmering sound; And frogs in the pools singing at night, And wild plum trees in tremulous white; Robins will wear their feathery fire, Whistling their whims on a low fence-wire; And not one will know of the war, not one Will care at last when it is done. Not one would mind, neither bird nor tree, If mankind...

My Mom: So do you have any tests tomorrow?
Me: Umm....no I don't think so.
My Mom: *looks at calendar* Well it says here that you have to take the EOCT for history.
Me: Oh, like I care about that.
My Mom: This is very serious, its a State mandated test that counts for 15% of your history grade.
Me: ...
My Mom: You need to study tonight.
Me: *walks away*

And suddenly, it was calm. We sat there, waiting, for what seemed like years. The people passing by us were strangely silent, whatever they were saying so inconsequential that we didn’t care to listen. We sat, we sat, we sat, as the world passed us by. The sky changed, first blue, then orange, pink, purple, until it was black and still. As we sat alone now, the moon rose in the East,...

My neighbors...
are running around in their backyard in overalls shooting squirrels and yelling about their kills. Only 14 more months of having to live in this redneck, idiot-filled, hellhole of a state…
